CHILD CRIPPLES
WILSON HOME WORK INSTALLING EQUIPMENT ELECTRIC WATER-HEATING Instructions to proceed with the installation of electric water-heating equipment in the hydro-therapeutic department now under construction at the Wilson Home for Crippled Children, Takapuna, have been given by the management committee of the home to its consulting engineer, Mr. L, Mandeuo. The equipment and installation are estimated to cost £I3Go, and it is hoped the building will bo ready for use in threo months' time. Requirements of the department, and alternative methods of heating tho water for the various baths, wero reviewed hv Mr. Mandeuo in a report submitted to the management committee this week. He pointed out that unless provision were made for re-cir-culating used water to the sprays, heavy expense would bo incurred by wastage of warm water after it had been only once through the sprays. Taking this into account, and tho requisite changes of the bath-water, not less than 4000 gallons a day of warm water would bo wasted. To enable the water to be used again, circulating pumps would have to bo installed. It would be obvious that it the same water were to bo used again, treatment would be required to maintain its purity, and for this purpose it was proposed to instal a, mechanical sand filter, Mr. Mandeno added. Tho cost of the filter plant was about £3OO, and it was estimated that tho saving effected by its use would be about £l5O a year.
Consideration had been given to various alternative methods of heating the water, including oil fuel, gas, slack coal and electricity. Mr. Mandeno recommended the n.se of electricity, the annual cost of which was estimated at about £3OO.
