HON. W. E. PARRY'S BILL SPORTS COMMITTEE'S REPORT CO-OPERATION RECOMMENDED [BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATIOX] ■WELLINGTON, Thursday A statement concerning the proposed Council of Sport has been issued by Mr. H. McCormick, chairman, and Mr. H. Amos, secretary of the combined sports committee. "The committee of combined sports bodies appointed to co-operate with the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, in the legislation recently introduced, says the statement, "reports as follows:—(1) The committee met Mr. Parry and the UnderSecretary, Mr. ,T. W. Heenan, and after going through the bill clause by clause came to a unanimous agreement. (2) The committee approves the bill and recommends its support by all national organisations. (3) The committee considers the adopted name, 'Council of Physical Welfare and Recreation,' is preferable to the original title, 'Council of Sport,' since it removes all ambiguities and misunderstandings, and clearly indicates its main purpose, namely, the promotion of the physical health and wellbeing of the community. "(4) The committee is satisfied that there is no suggestion of compulsion as to which sports individuals may take up and that there will be no interference whatever with regard to the administration of our national sports. (M The committee believes that the main purpose is identical with the ideas promulgated by recent English legislation, so that all individuals and sports organisations can safely give the bill full support and co-operate wholeheartedly with the authorities in carrying out the proposals." !
