BARMAN ALSO CONVICTED [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] MORRINSVILLE, Wednesday Charges of supplying liquor to a Maori for consumption off the premises, and supplying liquor after hours, were preferred against tho licensee of the Criterion Hotel, Pacroa, Henry Wcarn, and a former barman, Gordon Archer, in the Magistrate's Court to-day before Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M. Both pleaded guilty. The police stated that a Morrinsville Maori had been supplied with a keg containing 40 gallons of beer, which had been used at a tangi in progress near Morrinsville on September 28.. For tho defence it was stated that Wcarn was ill on the night of tho offonco and had handed the keys over to the second barman. He knew nothing of the sale until advised from tiie Pacroa railway station that an empty keg had been returned to him. When ho learned of tho action of tho barman ho had dismissed him. The magistrate said but for the fact that Wcarn was ill at the time of the transaction lie would have endorsed his 'licence Wearn and Archer were fined £ls and £lO respectively on, the first charge, and convicted on tho other.
