AMERICAN REPUBLICS DISPUTE OVER TERRITORY NICARAGUA AND HONDURAS (Received October 22, 5.5 p.m.) WASHINGTON. Oct. 21 Th 9 United States has joined with Venezuela and Costa Rica in an effort to / avert the threatened war between Nicaragua and Honduras owing to the postage stamp dispute. The movement of troops toward the disputed territory has prompted this action. t A message from Tegucigalpa, capital of Honduras, on September 5, stated that' the relations between Nicaragua and Honduras were gravely imperilled owing to a dispute over a recent Nicaraguan postage stamp. This bore an ■'engraved map of Nicaragua which was alleged to include a section of Honduras territory. Honduras protested to Nicaragua, which' coldly retorted that the stamp "portrays an official map of Nicaragua." The wrath of Honduras approached detonation point. Nicaraguan residents were threatened and many were being reMeetings were held all over Honduras demanding war. A students' manifesto proclaimed that "the decisive moment of our history has arrived. We can break faith with future generations or fight against the dismemberment of tho Fatherland "
