U--I :sm' mmi -3fc u;. 7 -'SA •. * Kme*#; %v - • in? ~ v :g® FAR We have pleasure in notifying our Shareholders that the Sales for the First Six Months of our financial year, ending 30th September, show an OF £75.381 over the same six months of last year. The total retail sales for the half year were £992,342, or only £7658 short of a million. This enormous figure represents retail sales direct to the public from our head office and branches, and does not include the turnover of our large wholesale business. In spite of heavier expenses, our increased sales have helped to maintain our net profit, and if business holds up during the next six months we are assured of another successful year. The Company tenders its thanks to its 14,000 Shareholders, realising that their loyal support, added to the growing popularity of our great store as Auckland's Leading Shopping Centre, has made possible these very satisfactory results. The half-year just completed was a period of great progress for the Company. Our Furniture Factory, employing 100 men, was enlarged, and the installation of an up-to-date drying kiln ensures that all timber in our furniture is perfectly seasoned. Our Tea Blending iand Packing Department has been housed in new and larger premises. With the completion of our new six-storey building, our Queen Street business was transferred to the very attractive Thrift Department on the Ground Floor. The new Footwear Department on the First Floor and the enlarged and remodelled Mantle and Millinery Showrooms on the Second Floor compare favourably with the leading stores in Australasia. Alterations have also been made in our Hardware Department, which is now by far the largest in the Dominion. A contract has been signed with the Transport Board for the operation in a few months of the most up-to-date Trolley Bus Service in Australasia for the free use of our shareholders and customers. Owing to the increasing popularity of our SelfService Tearoom, another floor is being added to our new building. When this is completed, we will have accommodation for 1000 patrons in our Restaurant and Self-Service rooms. Stocks of merchandise, especially of seasonable goods, are more comprehensive than ever before, and we invite all Shareholders to inspect the splendid assortments now displayed in all Departments.
