DARGAVILLE AERODROME
COST BEYOND THE COUNCIL [by telegraph—own correspondent] DARGAVILLE. Tuesday Proposals for an aerodrome in Dargaville were referred to by the Mayor, Mr. F. A. Jones, in a report to the monthly meeting of the Borough Council last evening. A loan of £7OOO would be required to finance the scheme and on this interest and sinking fund would amount to some £-120. The additional loss of rating on the land would bo £6O, while the cost of maintaining the extra length of road would be £55, so that the total annual charge would be £535. This sum would make no allowance for the maintenance and running expenses of the aerodrome when established. The Mayor expressed the opinion that a major scheme was beyond the finances of the borough. It was decided to advise the Public Works Department that while the council was not prepared to consider financing a major scheme, it was prepared to consider the cost of a minor proposal. It was also decided to ask for further information ,as to the areas involved.
