"VICTORIAN AREAS STREAMS NOW RECEDING HEAVY LOSS OF STOCK By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright (Roceivcrl October 19, 0.2 p.m.) MELBOURNK. Oct. 10 Continuous rain has caused serious flooding in central and eastern Victoria. A gigantic wall of water is approaching Kooweerup, in Gippsland, and a special train has been rushed to the town to evacuate the inhabitants. Floods in the Yarra valley have caused heavy losses of stock and serious damage to farms. Many homes near Melbourne are inundated. There has been no rain in tlio metropolitan area since 9 p.m. yesterday. Most of the rivers and creeks are receding and the general flood peril appears to have passed. The River Yarra overflowed near Kew and tho waters reached tho doorsteps of houses and partly covered three golf courses. Market gardens were seriously damaged and 100 square miles of rich fields and farms were inundated in Southern Gippsland.
