REMUERA LADIES' CLUB FOURSOMES HANJDICAP EVENT FINAL MATCH DECIDED The final of the foursomes handicap match-play competition for the president's trophy was staged yesterday by the Remuera Ladjes' Golf Club, Airs. Bailey and Miss Phillips defeating Mrs. Malfroy and Mrs. Price, 2 and 1. In a bogey match, Mrs. Clotworthy, Miss Bowes and Mrs. Wilson returned scores of 1 down. The first-named won on a recount. The best scores returned in the second round for the Boon Cup wero as follows: Miss D. Henderson, 90, 27—09; Miss Grove, 101, .33 —71. , „ . . CAMBRIDGE JUNIOR FINAL [from our OWN correspondent] CAMBRIDGE, Thursday The final of the Cambridge Golf Club's junior championship was played yesterday, C. C. Thompson defeating N. C. Wilson, 2 up, after a very interesting match. Both played well above junior form. Thompson's cards read 81 in the morning and 01 in tho afternoon. Wilson scored SG and BS.
EXHIBITION MATCH [by telegraph—oto correspondent] OPOTIKI, Thursday A ,match of considerable interest to golfers was played on the Opotiki links yesterday, the competitors being two professionals, A. Shaw and Norrie Bell, versus two members of the local club, M. O. Kidd and L. Davies. The weather was fine and there was a large gallery. The amateurs struck form from the start and at the tenth hole were 3 up. The professionals reduced the lead to 1 up at the 16th. The Opotiki pair won the 17th and the match, 2 up and 1 to play. TOURING LEAGUE TEAM WIN FOR AUSTRALIANS DEFEAT OF ROCHDALE HORNETS (Received October 14, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, October 13 The touring Australian Rugby League team defeated Rochdale Hornets to-day by G points to 0. There was no score at half-time. The play of tho Australians in the early stages was very ragged, the visitors missing a number of scoring opportunities. Good movements were also spoiled in the second spell by dropped passes or by tho ball being thrown forward. However, fine movements enabled Beaton and Pierce to score tries. In the semi-final of the Rugby League competition for the Yorkshire Cup, Leeds defeated Batley by 10 points to 5.
