THE BOOT INDUSTRY
Sir,—rEe. "Boot Trader. Squealers." The Hon. H. T. Armstrong hits out like Don Bradmnn, but his leg theory is all wrong. He slates the manufacturers as a whole for importing boots and shoes in great quantities. As a matter of fact there are only four or five manufacturers in this Dominion who import. What about tho dozens of others who import nothing? They are hard hit. I notice with great tho Government admits we are low paid, in fact the lowest in New Zealand for skilled workers. What affects the manufacturer to-day affects the employees. A kitten or a pup will open its eyes in seven days and all we ask from the Government as employees of this hard hit industry is something practical that will help both manufacturer and employee. Sympathy without relief is like mustard without beef. Tltey promised us the moon with a few stars thrown in, but it appeals they have moved the sky beyond our> reach. Employee, Boot Trade.
