CHANGEABLE IN PARTS ! . ; _ GENERAL IMPROVEMENT ' The weather report and forecast for : New Zealand, issued last evening by the Government meteorologist, were as follows: —Although a rather intense anti-cyclone covers New Zealand toj day, its centre is located east of the South Island and pressure is still relatively low over the North Tasman. Pressure is now falling over Southeastern Australia. The forecast is for strong south-easterly -winds at first in parts of central districts; otherwise light to fresh winds, between east and north-easterly, prevailing. Seas rather rough to rough, but later decreasing between Kaikoura. and East Caps and in the South Taranaki Bicht; elsewhere light to moderate, but rising somewhat north of East Cape. Eastern Tasman / Sea: Moderate to fresh easterly winds ' in the northern portion with moderate to rather rough seas; light northeasterlies in the southern portion, later freshening, with slight to moderate seas. The weather is still likely to be changeable, with occasional showers or misty rain between Cook Strait and East Cape and scattered rains also in. the northern portion of the North Island, but conditions gradually improving; elsewhere fair to fine. Temperatures cold, with some frosts, but becoming milder to-morrow.

SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST CLOUDY WITH SCATTERED RAIN The Government meteorologist issued to the Herald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Moderate easterly winds freshening, especially in the far north. The weather is likely to be cloudy to overcast with scattered rain,==» mora If especially in the eastern areas. Tem- • peratures cool to moderate. Seas slight to moderate, but a considerable swell on. the east coast. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER ' Auckland.—Fine, warm, sunny weather with a light north-easterly wind ' was experienced yesterday. The maximum temperature reading was 64 degrees and the minimum was 54 degrees. A risiug tendency was shown in barometric pressure. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 30.201n. Midnight, Wednesday .. 30.12fn. Wellington.—The day was cold and cloudy with occasional showers. There was a fresh southerly wind all day.. Christchurch. —The day was fine. Tho morning was cloudy, but there was bright sunshine in the afternoon, with a moderate south-east wind. The maximum temperature was 51.2 degrees. The barometer read 30.42 in. at o p.m. and was then falling. ; Dunedin.—A day of bright sunshine with passing clouds was experienced, but a fresh north-easterly breeze kept the maximum temperature down to 53 - degrees.
