BATTERY'S SUCCESS
PRESENTATION OF TROPHY MINISTER'S CONGRATULATIONS [by TELEGRAPH —OWN correspondent] HAMILTON, Thursday Congratulations were extended to the 2nd Medium Battery on its success in winning the trophy awarded to the most efficient artillery unit in New Zealand by the Minister of Defence,. the Hon. F. Jones, when he presented the trophy this evening. There was a large attendance at the ceremony. The trophy is a handsome miniature of a 60-pound gun. The Minister said that the battery had won a fine reputation since it was revived a little over a year ago. He paid a tribute to the efficiency of the men and to the enthusiasm of the commander, Major E. F. Clayton-Greene. The Government's new defence scheme was described by the Minister, who appealed to the public generally to give their wholehearted support to the territorial movement. The success of the new scheme, he said, depended on the co-operation of employers and the general public. Major-General J. E. Dnigan, Officer Commanding the New Zealand Defence Forces, said he was proud of the 2nd Medium Battery, and wished it every success in the future. "To win the trophy was an achievement; to win it from Dunedin was a triumph," said the Mayor of Hamilton, Mr. J. R. Fow. Mr. C. A. Barrell, M.P., also complimented the battery. After the presentation ceremony the battery gave an exhibition of firing practice, and the Waikato Regimental Band played appropriate music.
