FOOTBALL ATTRACTION

AUCKLAND TO PLAY MAORIS APPEARANCE OF G. NEPIA To assist in the formation of an injured players' fund, the Auckland Rugby League, in co-operation with the"Senior Clubs' Officers' Association, will stage a gala at Carlaw Park tomorrow, and a splendid programme has been arranged. Events of a varied nature will bo held, commencing at 2 p.m. with a mock court.' 1 his will bo followed by athletic and American basketball competitions. There will also bo a display by a Maori concert party. Most interest, however, will centre in the football match between a team representing the Maoris and an Auckland thirteen. The appearance of G. Nepia, the famous former Rugby fullback, with tho Maori team will prove a splendid attraction. Nepia will bo remembered for his brilliant, exhibition at fullback against the Australian Rugby Loaguo team which visited Auckland recently. The team chosen to represent the Maoris is a powerful combination, and is almost identical with that which defeated the Kangaroos at Carlaw Park. Tho Auckland side will not bo at full strength, owing to several prominent players boing on the injured list. However, a powerful combination has been assembled. LEAGUE TEAM'S TOUR AUSTRALIANS' VICTORY DEFEAT OF YORKSHIRE (Received October 7, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, October G The Australian Rugby League team defeated Yorkshire to-day by 8 points to 4. Yorkshire led by 4 points to nil at half-time. Tho attendance was 757 U. The gamo was played in exceptionally cold weather. The Australians threw the ball about nicely during the early stages and kept up a constant attack. Lockwood, at tho third attempt, landed a penalty goal for Yorkshire after 25 minutes' play, and just before half-time tho same player kicked another penalty goal. Six minutes after tho resumption Williams kicked a goal for Australia. Tho Kangaroos continued to invade Yorkshire's territory and Lewis, after a hard run down the line, Scored a good try. William failed to convert. Norman, who was mainly responsible for Australia's first try, broke through again just before the final whistle and made an opening which enabled Robinson to score. Williams again failed to convert.
