SOCIETY ROMANCE
TWO FAMOUS FAMILIES THE MARQUESS OF CLYDESDALE LONDON, Oct. 5 The Marquess of Douglas and Clydesdale, heir to the Duke of Hamilton, former Guardsman and noted boxer and airman, who led the Houston Expedition which flew over Mount Everest twice in 1933, has become affianced to Lady Elizabeth Percy, eldest daughter of the Duchess of Northumberland. The romance will unite famous families on pach side of the border which were once sworn enemies. "1 think I have made the most successful raid ever carried out across the border by a Douglas," said Lord Clydesdalo at a luncheon with members of the Hamilton Presbytery, of which he is an elder.
He added: "The enmity of the Percys and the Douglases dated from the 14th century. The 'battle' of the wooing of the Lady Elizabeth began at Alnwick Castle, Northumberland, and was carried north to Scotland, where I was finally successful."
