NEW DESTROYER MAORI
PROPOSED DOMINION GIFT NAVY LEAGUE SUGGESTION [BY TKIiHGII Al'tt OWX cOIt R F.sr ON T1 F.N T ] WELLINGTON, Wednesday A suggestion that some appropriate gift should be made to the recentlylaunched destroyer Maori by the New Zealand branches of the Navy League was made bv Mr. S. D Waters at the monthly meeting of the executive of the Wellington branch. The Maori, which was launched on the Clyde last month by Mrs Jordan, wife of the High Commissioner for New Zealand, was one of the 16 destroyers of the Tribal Class, vessels of 1850 tons displacement, whose construction was being accelerated. The Maori, said Mr. Waters, was the only ship in the Royal Navy with a New Zealand name, and he thought it would be fitting if, when she was commissioned, she was presented with something that would typify to her officers and men her association with the Dominion.
