LINK WITH TAUBANGA AMALGAMATION EFFECTED LAST MEETING OF MEMBERS [BY TF.I.KOIIAPH OWN CORK KSPON DKN'l'] OPOTIKI, Wednesday The president, Mr. R. A. Hedley, presided at the annual meeting of the Opotiki Jockey Club, held last night. The statement of accounts showed' receipts at £1773 16s 5(1. Of the cash assets £773 will be paid to the Bay of Plenty Jockey Club. It was decided to ask the Opotiki Hunt Club to take control of the assets, mostly comprising old equipment not required by the Bay of Plenty Jockey Club. The president, in stating that the club would be winding up that evening, thanked members for the help they had given him during his terms of office. Amalgamation had been practically forced 011 the club, and he sympathised with the older members, who bad shouldered the burden for many years. He felt, however, that amalgamation would bo in the best interests of the district. Mr. Hedley then moved that the Opotiki Jockey Club be wound up. This was seconded by Mr. E. W. Oswald.

Short, one of the older members, in thanking the president for his reierenee to those who had stood by the club, said that, although the district had lost something, it had gained something better. It was only a matter of time and the club undoubtedly would have had to close down. They had not lost all; a Hunt Club had been formed and 011 the racecourse Opotiki would have an aerodrome that, would be of great benefit to the district. The motion was carried unanimously. Mr. Hedley stated that under the terms of amalgamation three members would be elected to the Bay of Plenty Jockey Club committee from Opotiki and one vice-president would also be appointed. The following were elected: —Vice-president, Mr. F. J. Short; members of committee, Messrs. R. A. Hedley, A. Young and F. Reid. NEW PLYMOUTH WORK WINSOME LU IN GOOD SHAPE [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] NEW PLYMOUTH, Wednesday Ideal conditions prevailed at New Plymouth yesterday, when all fast work took place on the course proper, with the flags out about loi't. Good efforts were registered by Sporting Song, Clcssamor and Winsome Lu. Sporting Song covered a mile, in 1.49. He moved evenly and finished strongly. He is ijn capital order for his engagements at Ellerslie.

Sleepy, who is to race at Cambridge, worked soundly over two circuits.

H. Gray's team, Bantry, Captain Tudor and Shangsi La, did useful tasks. Bantry and Captain Tudor will probably make their first appearances this season at Waverlev. Clessamor ran away from Ringside over six furlongs, the last five taking 1.5, but did not seem to have much in reserve.

Ridden out, Brilliancy finished a neck in front of Ohanga at the end of six furlongs in 1.18 3-5. Ohanga was going comfortably in the final furlong. He may race at Trentham.

Ncatirahiri and Booklaw were going easily at the end of seven furlongs, the last six occupying 1.2. U. Booklaw worked well for a hurdler. Racecall ran the last two furlongs of a round in 265.

Don Erma and Royal Dispute covered a mile in 1.58. Don Erma has freshened up. Winsome Lu infused dash into her work to finish half a length in front of Dancing Lady over five furlongs in 1.6. The former has thrown off her shoulder soreness.

Lady TCyra was apportioned a working gallop over six furlongs, taking 1.27. She is backward, but will probablv race at Waverlev.

Tahurangi has made his reappearance, looking big and healthy.

H. Dulieu has had to destroy tho two-year-old Golden Ray, by Captain Runsby from Tinkler. Just prior to the combined hunts meeting Golden Ray was badly kicked on tho track, having a bone splintered.

Riddiford, who recently returned from a visit to England, saw a good deal of racing in that country but he does not think England can teach New Zealand much regarding the conduct of race meetings, says "Watcher." Ho considers, on the other hand, that there aro directions in which Eugland can learn from the Dominion.
