SHOP CLOSING HOUR
EXEMPTION REFUSED An application for exemption from enforced closing of his fruit business at 6 p.m. was brought before Mr. C. R. Orr Walker, S.M., in the Magistrate's' Court yesterday by Richard Browning Harman, for whom Mr. Elwarth appeared. The application was opposed by Mr. Sullivan, representing other fruiterers and their organisation. • The magistrate held that the application was no different from one made fry applicant four months ago, when exemption was refused on the grounds that it would not be in the public interest and that other shopkeepers would be substantially affected. It was Btated by applicant that he desired to keep open for the sale of fruit on Sundays, because his shop was used by a large number of visitors to the Auckland Hospital and he had obtained about 700 signatures to a petition for exemption. The application was refused.
