DISMISSAL OF WORKER
REINSTATEMENT SOUGHT MANUREWA BOARD'S DECISION Executive officers of the Auckland Drivers' Union waited upon the Manurewa Town Board at the board's meeting last night regarding the dismissal of a man employed on subsidised works. The union alleged that the man had been victimised. The union secretary, Mr. L. G. Matthews, Baid there had been hostility between the foreman and the man. The acting-chairman, Mr. W. J. Ferguson, said that aspoct need not arise. The man had waited on tho board and it was in consequonco of that interview that tho board decided to dismiss him. There had been no victimisation of any description, Tho foreman, in a statement, said tho employee had resented taking orders. Tho president of tho union, Mr. A. Bell, requested tho board to reinstate the man. He offered to undertake disciplining tho worker through the union if necessary. "The man is suffering through tho penalty imposed by the Labour Department," added Mr. Bell. "Ho is to bo refused assistanco for a period of eight weeks." The chairman said the board could not bo blamed for that. "Wo cannot tako any other view if vou refuse to reiustato the man," said Mr. Bell. , ~ The chairman said he would not tolerate a position such as was created by the worker's attitude. Ho assured tho deputation that tho board would i stand by its decision.
