WOMAN WINS SEAT
ELECTION IN VICTORIA TWO OPPONENTS DEFEATED (Received October 5, 1 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Oct. 4 The latest figures on the electoral count ensure the election to the Victorian Legislative Assembly of Mrs. Clarence "Webber, the first woman member to be elected at any general election. She is the second woman to hare held a seat in the Victorian Parliament, the first being the late Lady Peacock, who succeeded to the seat of her husband, the late Sir Alexander Peacock three years ago at a by-elec-tion.
Mrs. Webber defeated the retiring United Australia Party member, and a Labour candidate, winning by 1500 votes.
