ADULTS AND CHILDREN
TWO GLEN AFTON FAMILIES
CAR'S PLUNGE INTO STREAM
[BY TELEGRAPH —SPECIAL REPORTER]
HUXTLY, Sunday
Six persons, three adults and three children, lost their lives when a motor-car in which they were returning from the Waingaro Hot Springs to Glen Afton left the road and plunged 30ft. down a sheer bank into a stream alongside the Waingaro Road, shortly after five o'clock yesterday afternoon. The victims are:—
Mr. William Henry Cole, aged 51, miner, of Glen Afton.
Mrs. Nelly Cole, aged 41, wife of Mr. Cole,
Irene Nelly Cole, aged 11, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cole,
Mr. John Nicolson Adams, aged 66, married, miner, of Glen Afton.
Thelma Dellaway, aged 9, daughter of Mr. F. G. Dellaway, miner, of Glen Afton, and grandchild of Mr. Adams.
Betty Dellaway, aged 6, sister of Thelma Dellaway.
A gallant attempt at rescue was made by an eye-witness of the accident. He succeeded in removing Mrs. Cole from the motor-car, but she did not respond to efforts to revive her. A son of Mr. and Mrs. Cole, Mr. William Cole, lost his life at the same spot and in identical circumstances on August 23 last year. Ten accidents in which motor vehicles have plunged from the road into the Waingaro Stream have occurred in the last three years.
