EPSOM TRACK RECORD

FEAT OF HAPPY VOYAGE While the mile of Nervie's Last in 2.4 2-5 is the fastest for an unhoppled pacer, the Epsom track record is held by Happy Voyage, also an Australianbred pacer, who recorded 2.4 1-5 in hopples on Monday, April 30, 1923. A few weeks previously. Happy Voyage had established a grass track record of 2.4 1-5 at New Brighton, and the Auckland Trotting Club offered a purse of £IOO to W. J. Tomkinson if ho could beat the record at Epsom. Other offers were £250 if the pacer ran 2.3 and £350 if he went 2.2. The attempt was arranged for Saturday, April 28, but owing to the heavy track, it was postponed until the following Monday, when, after being specially rolled, the track was in good order.

Happy Voyage was accompanied by the gallopers, No Bother (A. .T. Julian) and Okaihau (A. Cowan) and ran the sections as follows-.—First quarter, 30 2-ss; half-mile, 1.2 2-5: six furlongs, 1.33 4-5; last quarter. 30 2-ss; and the full distance in 2.4 1-5.

Happy Voyage was a stallion b.v Direct Voyage from Honest Meg. and Nervie's Last is a gelding by Pedro Pronto from Nervie Mauritius.
