CONVERSION OF CAR
CHARGE AGAINST SAILOR EARLY MORNING INCIDENT A seaman from H.M.S. Leander, Douglas Derbyshire, aged 28, appeared in the Police Court on Saturday morning charged with unlawfully converting to his own use a motor-car valued at £9B. He pleaded guilty. Sub-Inspector Fox said that the owner of the car came out of a restaurant in Victoria Street west at two o'clock on Saturday morning, and saw that his car had been moved a short distance. Accused was sitting at the wheel of the car, which was partly on the footpath. Constable Egan found that Derbyshire was affected by liquor, but was not intoxicated. An officer from H.M.S. Ix?ander told the Bench that Derbyshire had been in the Navy since 1928, and bis behaviour had always been excellent. 1 lie officci thought 'that Derbyshire must have been excited bv the liquor. The case was adjourned for six months, the presiding justices telling accused that if his behaviour was good in the meantime nothing more would be heard of the matter.
