HIGHER PENSIONS BILL
A SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE FIGURES FOR PAST YEAR [BY TELEGRAPH —SPECIAL REPORTER J "WELLINGTON, Saturday An increase of £2,071,601 in the annual value of pensions administered by the Pensions Department during the year ended March 31 last, is recorded in the annual report of the department, tabled in the House of Representatives. Last year the annual value was £5,930,421, as compared with £3,858,820 for the previous year. The <;ross payment of all pensions was £4,940,428, as compared with £3.659,664, an increase of £1,280,764.
The annual value of old-age pensions rose from £1,828,150 to £3,068,293,' the total payments last year being £2,413,103 against £1,718,601 _in the previous year. A total of £2B-1,/60 was paid last' year in invalidity pensions. The cost of pensions per head ol European population was £3 5s in 1936-37 against £2 9s Id in 1935-36.
