Lyons, in the course of his election speech last evening, emphasised that his Government's defence policy was designed to prevent an enemy reaching Australian waters. "\Ve are determined not to wait until the enemy is at our gates before we attack him," he said.
"An isolationist policy must expose Australia to the frightful danger of having her coastal cities and towns destroyed ruthlessly, as is happening in other parts of the world. "Only hv close co-operation between a strong Australian Navy and the fleets of the Empire can wo> hope to prevent an enemy coming within striking distance of Australia."
