STATE EMPLOYEES' POSITION ENCOURAGEMENT TO ENLIST [BY TELEGRAPH —SPECIAL REPORTER] WELLINGTON, Wednesday Facilities provided by the Government to enable State employees to enlist in the Defence Forces were outlined in the House of Representatives to-day by the Prime Minister, Mr. Savage, in reply to a question asked previously by Mr. A. C. A. Sexton (Independent— Franklin)

Mr. Savage said departmental heads were enjoined to afford every encouragement to members of their staffs to enlist in the Territorial Force and, subject to departmental convenience, special leave of absence was granted to public servants who were Territorials to enable them to attend camps and courses of-military instruction. Jn those cases, Mr. Savage continued, tho option was granted them of receiving departmental or military pay. whichever was the greater, but if training was carried out during periods of annual leave, both civil and military pay was granted.
