OBITUARY

MR. W. S. HORNE A former member of the staff of the Auckland City Council, Mr. William Stanley Home, died suddenly at his residence in Stanley Bay yesterday afternoon. The late Mr. Horned who was born in London 71 years ago, was in business as a builder and quantity surveyor in England before coming to New Zealand. He was employed lor some years as clerk of works on a number of Government undertakings in New Zealand, and in 391] was appointed by the Auckland City Council as a member of its staff. He was a man of fine character and set a high standard in the performance of his duties. He retired on superannuation over six years ago. He is survived by his widow and a grownup family. •

MR. LIONEL WALLIS The death occurred at his homo at Milford last week of Mr. Lionel Wallis, aged 80. Arriving in New Zealand in 1875, the late Mr. Wnllis spent a few years in tho Hawko's Bay district. He later took up land at Palmerston North and was president of the Mannwatu Agricultural and Pastoral Association in 189">. -Mr. Wallis also served on various local bodies. He was later fanning in both tho Wnikato and North Auckland districts, but on his retirement ho lived for a time at Tauranga. and later moved to Milford. Mr. Wallis is survivor! by his wife, two sons and three daughters. MISS M. E. MILLER v The death has occurred at Barnstaple, Devonshire, of Miss Margaret Edith Miller, who many years ago was well known in New Zealand as principal of tho Hraemar House college for girls in Moray Place, Dunedin. When Miss Miller and her two sisters came to the Dominion they opened Braemar House in 1895 and controlled it until 1914. when it became Columba College.
