ROYAL AIR FORCE OFFICER SERVICE IN THE NEAR EAST On four months' loavo of absence from service with the Royal Air Force in Egypt, Flying-Officer W. L. Collett arrived from Sydney by the Awatea yesterdiiy to visit his home in Poverty Bay. Flying-Officer Collett loft for England to join the Royal Air Force in 1933, after having gained early training with the Gisborne Aero Club. Ho spent a year at Numbor 3 Flying Training School at 'Grantham and was then posted to Number 14 Bombing Squadron at Amraam in Transjordania. Ho was next transferred to Number 45 Bombing Squadron, stationed near Cairo. During the Italian invasion of Abyssinia, Flying-Officer Oollett did considerable Hying near the Abyssinian border and also went as far as the Libyan border. Ho took part in an aerial survey of Cyprus in 1936 and in January of this year participated in a trial reinforcement flight from Egypt to the North-west frontier of India. Since April ho has been an instructor at Numbor 4 Flying Training School at Abu Suoir, near the Suez Canal.
