MATAMATA WATER SUPPLY

Sir, —In your issue of September 2-1 you give prominence to a statement by the Minister of Lands, v tho Hon. F. Langstone, when in Matamata recently to the effect that tho Government had arranged to find £2500 toward the purchase price of land on the Kaimais for a water catchment area in connection with the borough water supply. The council, while sincerely wishing that you have gauged the Government's intentions correctly, desires me to point out that no official advice has been received locally of any decision in this matter. The Mayor, on the recent visit of the Minister, took the opportunity of thanking him for the consideration and attention already given to the request, and expressed the wish that finality would bo reached in the near future. The Minister in his reply said nothing which could lead anyone to believe the Government had made a decision, and it would seem you havo been wrongly informed. W. D. Hay. Town Clerk, Matamata Borough Council.
