SEAMAN PLEADS GUILTY FOUR CHARGES OF THEFT Charged with incurring a debt of £3 lis 6d, oncl thereby obtaining credit by fraud from Douglas Ernest Reid, Jack Morton, seamun, aged 28, pleaded guilty in the Police Court, before Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., yesterday.

Detective-Sergeant Walsh said accused engaged a taxi-cab to take him to Titirangi on Jul}- 22. Ho kept the taxi, waiting,,and visited a number of places, returning to town about 4 a.m. He gave the driver an envelope, which he'said contained a cheque from his father, but it was found to contain only a letter./*'

Mr. Walsh said accused had arrived from England in 1931 in the Cambridge, from which ship he deserted at .Wellington. In 1931 he had been sentenced, in company with a woman, to 6even years' imprisonment for robbery while armed. He had been discharged in August, 1936, and after- working on farms was in the Auckland Hospital. He then broke and entered houses at Auckland, Wanganui, Levin and Himitangi. He then went to Wellington, < where he was arrested. Accused was sentenced to two months' imprisonment. Accused wasthen charged with breaking and entering by night iotir cottages at Titirangi, and committing theft. J'be goods stolen included a wireless set valued at £l6, and electric kettle and iron, blankets,. a ring, car rings and a suitcase, with lGs, of a total value of £5 16s; a clock and Is, of a total value of os, and os in money.

Pleauing gujlty to nil charges, accused was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
