WAGE RATES PROBLEM
CASUAL AND WEEKLY WORK TEST CASE NEXT WEEK TASK FOR ARBITRATION COURT What is tantamount to a tost case to determine the difference between the wages rates of casual workers and other classes of workers paid on an hourly basis, although they usually are employed in full-time occupations, will l)e heard b\* the Arbitration Court on September 30. The case will be that of the Auckland Local Bodies Labourers' Union dispute. The Court had found difficulty in securing a typical case, explained Mr. W. Cecil Prime, employers' 'member of the Court, to union secretaries who wexe present in Court yesterday. He said that if the matters in the dispute which involved the Auckland Local Bodies Labourers' Union were placed before the Court, consideration could be given to the whole question of casual and weekly employnjent, and the Court probably would make a pronouncement ill the form of a memorandum.
Such a pronouncement, he said, would possibly be a good guide for parties with disputes in conciliation.
