AMERICAN SKIERS
THE SPORT IN NEW ZEALAND VISITORS IMPRESSED After visiting New Zealand and Australian ski-ing grounds, where they competed with considerable success against tho representatives of both countries, tho members of tho United States university ski team, who arrived in New Zealand over a month ago, passed through Auckland by the Mariposa from Sydney yesterday on their return to America. They expressed high praise for the sport offered skiers in New Zealand, and said that with more severe practice New Zealand exponents would 'be able to ofTer strenuous and close resistance to any overseas experts.
The American team originally consisted of ifour members, but injuries prevented two of them from competing in all the events they intended to in Australia. J. Lougliran, of Harvard University, broko his collarbone and went back to tho United States bv another ship, and D. Bradley was injured in an accident in Sydney. S. Bradley and R. Durrance, who swept almost everything before him in both New Zealand and Australia, were able, however, to go through tho whole of the programme they had sot themselves, and not only did they defeat tho Australian team, but also won several individual championships. •
