EDUCATION NEEDS
,PLANS FOR HAMILTON SEPARATING BOYS AND GIRLS [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Monday The Education Department's plans for the future of secondary education in Hamilton were outlined in a letter received by the Hamilton High School and Hamilton Technical High School Boards from the Minister of Education, the Hon. P. Fraser, to-day. The Minister said he had very carefully considered the opinions expressed at a meeting of Hamilton school representatives held in Hamilton on Juno 11, and had come to the conclusion that the educational requirements of Hamilton would bo best met by the adoption of the following proposals:— (1) Making the present high school a separate school for girls; (2) building a new school for boys on the Hamilton East sito of 47 acres; (3) making the Besent technical school, with the amilton West school site, an intermediate school for girls and boys; (4) building a new school for primers to Standard IV. on the new sito at Fow Street, tho site to be put in good order for school purposes by the department. The Minister said he was unable at tho present time to say when it would be possible to begin tho necessary buildings, but ho thought it would bo most unlikely that the change-" oyer could bo made before tho beginning of 19.39 at the earliest. The Minister asked the two boards to submit their comments on the proposals be had made. The Minister's proposals are the same as those agreed to at the conference on June 11.
