NEW ZEALAND TITLES VISITORS FROM AUSTRALIA EVENTS ON HAMILTON LINKS According to private advice received in Auckland, it is now almost certain that a team of Australian golfers will visit New Zealand at the end of this month. It is stated that those who are certain to make the trip are H. W. Hattersley, H. M. Cutler and Sydney Jones, junior, while it is hoped that L. Nettlefold will also he available.
Hattersley is a former champion of New South Wales and Australia, and recently ho was runner-up to J. Ferrier in his State championship. Ho is one of the longest drivers in the world and is on a handicap of 1 under the par system. Besides being a splendid golfer, Hattersley is a first-class swimmer and a good footballer. Cutler is on a handicap of 5 and he represented New South Wales against New Zealand in 1934. Ho and C. C. Ruwald defeated J. P. Hornabrook and B. M. Silk in the foursomes, but he was replaced by E. L. Apperley for the singles. Jones is a son of Dr. P. Sydney Jones who was manager of the last Kirk-Windeyor Cup team. Nettlefold is one of tho few lefthanders to win a national championship. Ho secured the Australian amateur championship in 1926 and 1928. Ho was defeated by the ultimate winner in the sixth round of the British amateur championship in 1927 and in the same year was runner-up in the Swiss amateur championship. During their stay in this country, the players will take part in the New Zealand championships at Hamilton. Their visit will be in the nature of a golfing holiday and although they will not play any official matches, it is quite probable that arrangements will be made for them to meet a New Zealand team at Hamilton.
The last Kirk-Windeyer Cup match was played at Middlemore in 1934 and on that occasion New Zealand defeated New South Wales by two matches and 10 holes. Prior to that Australia had won the event three times and New Zealand twice.
