YOUNG MAN DROWNED
CAUGHT IN FLOODED RIVER EFFORT TO CROSS ON HORSE [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION*] GISBORNE. Monday Caught in the flooded Waiapu River yesterday afternoon, Mr. Thomas Lima, a married man, aged 23, was swept from his horse and drowned. He had Successfully crossed the river in the morning and was attempting to return later when the river had risen two feet. Mr. Lima's sister saw him in difficulties and his horse later floundered from tho river without its rider. A search resulted in the body being found near tho mouth of the river an hour later.
