WELSH SOCIETY

SOCIAL EVENING HELD A pleasant gathering of the Auckland Welsh Society was held in the Overseas League rooms. Mr. T. E. Price presided. Reference to the visit of the King and Queen to Wales was made by the president, who referred to the warmth of the reception accorded them. At Carnarvon Castle they were entertained by a choir of 800 voices, conducted by Mr. Matthews Williams. An excellent programme had been arranged and was as follows: —Songs, Mrs. Edwards, Mrs. Kersey, Mr. Frank Poroad and Mr. Mitchell; pianoforte solo, Miss Netta Simicli. The accompanists were Mr. Beit Evans, Mr. Peter Black and Miss N. Simicli.

During the evening Mr. A. J. Entrican, president of the Ulster Society, presented a number of Welsh books to Mr. Price for the benefit of the Welsh Society. Community singing was later enjoyed and supper was served.
