STRIKE RESUMED
MELBOURNE GAS WORKS MEN'S DRASTIC ACTION INVASION OF A PLANT (Received September 1, 10.35 p.m.) MELBOURNE. Sept. 1 Swift moves by the union late to-day ■tvero followed by a resumption of the gas workers' strike. The men at the South and West Melbourne plants walked out after a hitch at a conference of the parties. The gas supplies were already small, and to-morrow there will be none at all in Melbourne. When the superintendent of the South Melbourne works attempted to start an essential portion of the plant he was forcibly jfrevented from doing so. Members of the stafi also were prevented from carrying out any operations. All tools for operating retorts and furnaces were removed by -the strikers. The company states that if the present state of lawlessness is not immediately suppressed tremendous damage to the plajits is inevitable.
