NEW PLYMOUTH, Wednesday " Most of tho visiting horses for tho combined hunts meeting have arrived, and there were again some interesting gallops this morning on tho course proper, with the flags out about 36ft. Tho plough was also available for fast work, and both tracks were in fine condition.

The best gallop was credited to Winsome Lu, who ran a fast half-mile, but Shining Spear, Auto Sweep and Fersen also wont well.

On tho grass, Auto Sweep covered half a mile in 52 2-ss. Ho was being kept tip to his work, but ho is inclined to be lazy, and it was a good gallop for a novice.

Flame Queen ran three furlongs. She is a nice mover.

Dawning Light occupied 1.23 for six furlongs. Sho ran the first half-mile in 53 2-ss, but was eased in the straight. Sho looks bright and well.

Aria covered half a mile in 53 2-ss. She came home strongly, and maj' perform well in the Weraroa Stakes. Shining Spear impressed by recording 52 2-53, yet he appeared to liavo something in reserve. Valroy Shows Speed Fox Moth, was under a strong pidl when running three furlongs in 41 2-ss. Sho was anxious to increase tho pace. Trevelyn Hold required 42 2-5s for the same distance. Liane and Girl Pat were sent five furlongs at three-quarter pace. Both look in first-class order. Malibu was not out to make time when running five furlongs, the last three in 42 l-ss. Spender hit out boldly over five furlongs in 1.7 2-5. Ho is looking more solid than previously. Mahala ran the last three of five furlongs in 435. Sho is a fine-looking hunter. Valroy displayed his usual speed by running three furlongs in 39 4-ss. He appeared to be going comfortably. On the plough. Sporting Song worked strongly over a mile and a-quarter, the last half-mile taking 55 l-ss. He is not engaged to-morrow, but has been nominated for the hurdle race on Saturday. Professional went twice round at three-quarter pace. Trackman pulled while doing two rounds at half-pace. He is to start in the hurdle race on the second day, and is in great order. Script, was half a length in front of Ngatirahiri at the end of three furlongs in 37 4-ss. Ngatirahiri did not work as freely as usual. Day Boy Goes Boldly Fersen appeared to have something in reserve after having completed a round of pace work by running the last two furlongs in 25 4-os. Ho moved with freedom. Olivette dashed over a quarter in 2o 3-os. Day Boy hit out; boldly over a circuit, pulling hard all the way.. Ho. is a fit horse. Glenthawn and Hirangi showed plenty of pace for jumpers by running half a mile in 525. Hirangi enhanced his chances for the Ladies' Bracelet. Glenthawn is to start on Saturday. Winsome Lu displayed improvement by sprinting half a mile in 50s. She ran the last two furlongs in 24 4-5s and finished strongly. The fences on the inside of the Hunt Club Cup course were available. Tambo impressed more than Tiger Bill in a bout over, the fences. Tambo jumped with plenty of confidence. Kinklo and Precise gave a capital exhibition over seven fences, Kinkle especially jumping splendidly. Red Fox shaped really well for a novice over a round, taking every fence in his stride. On tljis showing he must have prospects in the Trial Steeples. Paetutu. jumped the brush and the double in the straight in safe fashion. He is an unlikely starter in the Hunt Cup, and may start in the Trial Steeples.

PROMISING MAIDEN HUNTER DAY BOY ENGAGED TO-DAY Until he fell in the Grecnmount Hunters' Steeplechase at the Pakuranga Hunt meeting Day Boy was going well and it is on the cards that he may he seen to more advantage in the Trial Hunters' Steeplechase at New Plymouth to-day. Trained by J. F. Tutchen at To Rapa, Day Boy is a hardy type by Matinee, winner of the Great Northern Guineas m 192 A from Spinster, and has a good deal of St. Simon blood in his pedigree, Matinee being by Day Comet, a grandson of St. Simon, and Spinster by Soult, son of St. Simon. LIKELY HACK . SPRINTER CUTE MELODY VERY SPEEDY When Cute Melody won the two halfmile two-year-old races at To Rapa last November she displayed brilliant speed and she is a good type of filly who may prove a very smart sprinter this season. Cute Melody is by digger Minstrel from the imported mare Miss Cute, by Charles O'Malley from Canny, by Seaforth from Pawky, by Morion from Clever ' Girl, by Beauclerc. She is trained by H.
