SCHOOLBOYS' TOURNAMENT RANKIN MEMORIAL CUP There was no play in the North Island secondary schoolboys' hockey tournament for the Rankin Memorial Cup yesterday, when the visiting teams were shown over the Hobsonville Air Base *nd ,tho Devonport Is aval Base. Two further series of games will be plaved to-day. and the final matches will be decided to-morrow morning. NEW ZEALAND TEAM RETURN FROM AUSTRALIA [BV TET.EGK.U'H —PRESS ASSOCIATION"] WELLINGTON, Wednesday Nine members of the New Zealand hocke.v team returned by the W T anganeHa with the manager. Mr. Ralph Gracie. of Christchurch who said that the team wens wonderfully well received and entertained in Australia, but from the playing point of view the tour was too strenuous. Nevertheless, they did very well, winning IS, losing three and drawing one match. They scored 101 goals and had -o scored against them. Moreover, they won the match for which they principally went oyer, the test against Australia, in which they succeeded by J to 0. In »he last UO minutes New Zealand were camped in Australian territory and the score really should have been standard of hocke.v had improved in Australia, particularly goalkeeping. but he did not I'.hink New Zealand had anything to learn from it He paid a high tribute to the behaviour ot the team, which had been a happv partv throughout. It was a young team, and 'it moulded into a very good side.
WOMEN'S TOURNAMENT RESULTS AT INVERCARGILL [BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION*] INVERCARGILL, "Wednesday The Dominion women's hockey tournament was continued to-day, the weather again being beautifully fine and the grounds in good order. After .to-morrow's matches Ihe semi-finals will be decided. The holder of the K Cup, Eastern Southland A, had another easy win, as did Wellington and Canterbury, but Central Otago and Auckland bad to fight all the way to win their games. Following are the result# of to-day's play:—Section A: Eastern Southland A, f». beat Nelson, 0; Southland A, 1, beat South Canterbury, 0; South Otago, a bye. Section B: Wellington,. 6. beat South Otago B, O: Auckland, 3, beat Otago, 3; Eastern B, a bye. Section C: Central Otago, 4, beat Ashburton, 3; Canterbury, 4, beat Wairarapa. 0; Southland B, a bye TOUR OF ENGLISH TEAM [liY TEI.Kf!RAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] INVERCARGILL, Wednesday At a meeting of managers of the various teams competing in the K Cup tournament it. was announced that a conference of delegates from various associations would be held in Wellington' on September 29. A discussion took place about the organisation of the tour of the All-Hngland women's hockey team, which is expected to arrive in New Zealand early in June, 1935. It was stated that the first and only test match, the venue of which was not yet known, would probably be played at the end of June. The English women had expressed a desire to be billeted throughout the tour in preference to staying at hotels. Players chosen for New Zealand would require at least a week's leave.
