CHRISTCHURCH COMPARISON MONTH'S INCREASE \£54,587 [IJY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION*] CHRISTCHURCH. Wednesday A further increase of revenue collected by the Customs Department in Christchurcli compared with receipts last year is shown in the returns for August. The increase in the total from all sources, £54,.357, is more than six times the increase recorded for July. Details for August, 1936 and 1937, are as follows: —Customs, £93,538 and £129,513; beer excise, £7931 and £11,240; sales tax, £35,206 and £45,407; petrol tax, £18,077- and £21,102; tyre duty, £1135 and £1816; light dues on shipping, £305 and £650; export levy (wool), nil and £162; export levy (meat), £BB6 and £828; miscellaneous, £B2 and £29; totals, £156,160 and £210,747.
The figures for the period from April to August in 1936 and 1937 are: — Customs, £430,356 and £529,966 ; beer excise, £36,763 and £47,962 ; sales tax, £157,361 and £200,237; 6d a gallon on benzine, £97,653 and £110,014; tyre duty, £4692 and £5999; light dues, £2504 and £3460; export levy (wool), nil and £1508; export levy (meat). £4033 and £4482; miscellaneous, £517 and £244; totals, £733,879 and £903,872.
