NOVEL COMPETITION
DISTANCE KICKING EVENT A novel football competition has been arranged by the Carlton Australian Rules Club, of Melbourne, and the Stanford University, United States. The competition will comprise a distance kicking contest. Measurements will be taken at the Stanford University and at the Carlton Club's ground and n comparison made. Jn order that equality of conditions shall exist, the parties have agreed to exchange foothalls, so that trials can be made with both types of halls. The'purser of the Monterey, Mr. R. S. Myers, is acting as an intermediary and on the last trip to Australia he made delivery of the ball forwarded by the Stanford University and received another in return from the Carlton officials. The American football is of a rather peculiar make. It is inflated bv means of a valve, in which a key is inserted and turned. The maximum inflation which can be obtained is 131b._ pressure.
