AMATEUR BILLIARDS

CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES [by TETiKCRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Tuesday A high standard of play was provided in the Now Zealand amateur billiards championship to-day, when three further games were decided. A. Bowie (.Dunedin), a past title-holder, had to play well toward the close to beat D. Rosenbaum (Wellington), winning by 6G6 to 580. One of the most briljiant and exciting matches ever seen in the New Zealand championship tournament was that between the title-holder, S. Moses (Wellington), and R. McKay (Christchurch), the champion winning by 666 to 660 after McKay had held a slight lead throughout the later stages. Moses to-night met R. Carrick (Auckland champion), who appeared to have the game in safe keeping when the board read 592 to 452 in his favour. However, Moses, displaying great tenacity, gradually reduced the lead and won by 666 to 647.
