FROCKS ON THE LAWN " " * vogue f;or tailored suits A largo gathering was attracted to Alexandra Park, Epsom, on Saturday for the August meeting of the Auckland Trotting Club. Although not warm enough for spring clothes, winter coats wero abandoned for tailored suits in light - weight tweeds, pin - striped materials and pastel-toned flannels, in most cases accompanied by dark contrasting blouses, jumpers and bright accessories. Some beautiful furs were worn, including many short fur jackets, fur capes and silver fox necklets. The majority of the hats were small, the shallow-crowned, upturned Breton sailors and the tiny brimless turbans and toques with 'eyo-voils being the most popular styles. Colour was given to the somewhat sombre frocking by vividly-coloured scarves, jaunty quills piercing the hats and occasional buttonholes of gay flowers.

W. A. Perkins, black fur-trimmed ensemble and a leaf-green felt hat; Mrs. C. E. Lawford, black tailored suit relieved with green, and a small hat to tone; Mrs. H. M. Hume, navy tailored suit with skunk furs, and a navy straw hat; Mrs. Frank Brodie, navy woollen onsemble and a matching felt hat; Sirs. R. T.
