CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL CARRICK BEATS HOLDSWORTH The final of the Auckland provincial amateur billiards championship for the Billiards, [Limited, Shield, was played on Saturday evening at Messrs. Billiards, Limited, Showrooms. R. Carrick, the Auckland champion, again retained his title by defeating L. F. W. Holdsworth by 219 points. Carrick was in play with 13 unfinished from the previous session. He continued in fine •style to compile a splendid all-round brealccof 106. Having the run of the play ho ri'pidly compiled further breaks of 43, 35 and' 33. In his first 12 visits to the table increased his lead to 300 points. Holdsworth played his usual solid good game, but although ho had the better of the contest over -the later stages, he was unable to overtake Carrick's lead. The final scores were:—K. Carrick, 1000 (106, 43, 85, 33, 21, 44, 24, 46 and 23 unfinished); L. P. W. Holdsworth, 781- (25, 44. 39, 45, 58 and 47).
Mr. H A. Massey, chairman of the Auckland Billiards 'Association, congratulated the players on their performances during the tourney. Ho presented tho Billiards, Limited, Shield to Carrick, who also received a gold medal. Holdsworth received the set of balls used in the championships as the runner-up, while White received a cue and case for his fine break of 132. Both Carrick and Holdsworth left for Wellington last evening to compete in the New Zealand championships. The Auckland B grade championships will be commenced at 7 o'clock this evening. J. W. Craies will meet T. iR. McGuire and I. J. Shepherd will play G. Wade.
