SEAWEED IN DIET

Sir, —I havo just read Dr. Chapman's excellent book, "Modern Food Habits." Jll view of the widespread interest how being taken in matters of diet, perhaps Dr. Chapman or some other authority would be kind enough to inform m which of the seaweeds abounding on our own coasts are edible. It appears on the face of it, that as seaweed is evidently extremely rich in mineral matter, the liquor obtained by simmering the seaweed (as is done for vegetable soup) would he a cheap and readily obtainable home-made "tonic"; of greater value, perhaps, than proprietary medicines purporting to be mineral concentrates. Is this so? 11. G. Maukham.
