GOLD AND SILVER QUOTATIONS IN LONDON LONDON, August 28 Fine gold is quoted to-day at £6 10s 8(1 an compared with £0 IDs Od yesterday, and £(i 19s 7d on Thursday. Silver 'was quoted yesterday at 10Jd an oz. spot, and forward, compared with ]9|jd, both positions, on Thursday. Saturday Further criticism of the imposition of the gold export tax was made at tho annual meeting of Nevis Sluicing Claims, Limited. Its abolition would be of great assistance to tho industry; and particularly to companies that oonld operate for only a portion-of tho year, speakers said. "The Nevis Company lias paid £252 in duty since its incorporation, and I certainly deny that the Hat rate is an equitable rate," said the chairman, Mr. \Y. T. Enston. The company was under tho disability of being able to work at tho outside only nine months of the year Until the companies received back their capital, or at least a fair proportion of it, no tax should no made.
