UNSETTLED AND MISTY HEAVY RAIN DEVELOPING The -weather report and forecast for New Zealand, issued last evening by the Government meteorologist, were as follows: —Ail anti-cyclone extends across the Tasman Sea and New Zealand, but a cyclone has developed to the northwest and is at present centred east of Norfolk Island.-ijThe forecast is for south-easterly winds about Cook Strait; elsewhere easterly to north-easterly prevailing, becoming strong and of gafe force at places north of Kawhia and East Cape and freshening generally from Cook Strait northwards; elsewhere light to-moderate.. Seas rough north of. East Capo and off shore north of Cape Egmont; elsewhere slight to moderate, but later rising between Cook''Strait and East Cape. Eastern Tasman Sea: x Strong easterly winds and rough seas in the northern portion, moderate but freshening north-east to northerly winds in the southern portion, with slight to /immoderate seas. The •weather is likely to become unsettled, dull and misty in the northern and eastern portions of North Island, with rain developing, some heavy falls being probable,' especially in Nortli Auckland and between Hawke's Bay and the Bay of Flentv; elsewhere fair to fine at first, but un, settled conditions and rain later extending over most of the North Island and to the north-east districts of the South. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST GENERAL EAIN, SOME FLOODING The Government meteorologist issued to the Herald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province:—North-easterly to easterlywinds, strong to gale force. WEEK-END WEATHER - Auckland.—The weather in Auckland was variable during the week-end. Summer conditions prevailed on Saturday and there was bright sunshine and a cloudless sky. A light southerly wind changed to the east in the evening and rain fell shortly before midnight. There were several showers yesterday mprning and the sky was overcast, while a fresh easterly to south-easterly wind blew, during the day. Wellington.—Some light drizzling rain fell on Saturday before 9 a.m.,bbu r thereafter the weather was fair, although cloudy, with a cool -southerly breeze. Sunday was fine and pleasant, with rather cool temperature, ,at#d a south-easterly breeze. The maximum temperature was 53.2 degrees. Christchurch. —The sun shone brilliantly on Saturday morning, but the sky clouded soon after noon, remaining clouded till yesterday afternoon, when the sun shone spasmodically. A cold south-west breeze blew throughout the week-end. The barometer was steady at 30.38 in. Dunedin.—Dull and overcast conditions prevailed on Saturday. There was a light southerly breeze and the maximum temperature was 49 degrees. The barometer rose steadily throughout the day. Yesterday was clear and fine, with bright sunshine all day. Temperatures were mild, the maximum being 53 degrees. There was a strong northerly breeze. The barometer continued to rise until shortly before mid-dav, when it commenced a falling movement.
