attend. The repertory theatre lias provided its quota of entertainment, and music-lovers have had much to interest them in recitals by local and overseas artists. The return of vaudeville to Favour has also been signally marked in Auckland this year, and an event of importance has been the visit of the Russian Ballet. With other productions in view, the remainder of the season promises to be of nn equally high standard. Talented Young Pianist A 17-year-old pianist, Colin Horsley. a Wanganui Technical College boy, who is visiting Auckland, is another talented youth to be discovered in tho Dominion. Already lie has reached an amazing degree of technical ability and with it he possesses to a most noticeable degree musicianly temperament, and artistic insight. Provided he is carefully directed, Horsley should not only make his mark in the' musical world as a solo pianist, but also reflect great credit on his country. Last week lie was heard by Benno Moiseiwitsch who was very much impressed with the lad's ability and musicianship.
MISS COMPTON'S PLANS The opportunity of seeing the -wellknown English actress Miss Fay Compton will be given to New Zealanders early next year, when she plans to visit the four chief centres with a company of successful London artists. The company will leave England at the end of this month and the tour is to include South Africa and Australia. The plays to bo presented include Laurence Housmnn's "Victoria Regina" and some of Noel Coward's suc-
cesses. Miss Compton will be accompanied by Mr. Stafford Hilliard, Miss Havly Bell, Miss' Ann Codrington, Mr. Bruno Bnrnaby, Mr. Michael Welling, Mr. Jack McNaughton and Miss Yvette Anning. Mr. Peter Pearing will be the producer. Miss Compton's parents were both connected with the theatre and she made her first appearance, at the age of 12, in 1906. Five years later she began her career proper and has acted uith success in London and America. She has also appeared in the films.
