MAKING TOAST

She sits before the glowing grate, At door and window howls the storm But here with bread and fork and plate, • She toasts unheeding, snug and warm. She gets her slices nicely browned And puts them in their dish, And soon she has a golden mound, As hot as anyone could wish. The fire-light leaps, the house cat purrs, The kettle sings and so does she— Oh, what a cosy task is hers In winter, making toast for tea. From Juno Gregory, Hamilton. (Copied.)
