In the accompanying diagram five necessary adjuncts of every home are shown in silhouette- —all of them composed of volume-produced units of reinforced concrete. On the extreme right are the washing tubs, made of specially fine material to prevent seepage and to give a smooth, clean surface. Here is 1937's answer to the problem of the old-fashioned unhygienic wooden tubs. On the extreme left is a single fireplace and chimney of pumice concrete units —interchangeable and easily handled. Next is a double chimney with open fireplace in one room and kitchen range in the other—likewise built up of units. These are complete, ready for assembling, as supplied direct from the factory. The actual assembling requires no special skill beyond capacity to read the printed instructions supplied to customers. Other advantages of portable pumice chimneys are: safety from fire Cfor pumice is an excellent insulator) and safety from earthquakes (for reinforced and tongued-and-grooved units are more shock-proof than any other suitable medium).
