THE NAVY LEAGUE

ENJOYABLE RECEPTION OFFICERS OF LEANDER . MANY GUESTS PRESENT A reception to Captain J. W. Rivett-Carnac, D.S.C., R.N., and officers of H.M.S. Leander was given in the Overseas Leagtio rooms last night by the president and council of the Auckland branch of tho Navy League. There was a very large and representative gathering "\of citizens present to extend a welcome to the officers and their wives. An address of welcome was given by Commander C. H. T. Palmer, president of the league, after which a very enjoyable programme was presented. It comprised songs by Miss Winifred Hill and Mr. Ernest Snell, humorous numbers by Mr. Alan McElwain, and orchestral selections by a quartette comprising Miss Kathleen O'Leary, Miss Moya Cooper-Smith, Miss Janet Clarkson and Miss Helen Gray. A play entitled "World Without Men" was given by members of tho drama circle of the Lyceum Club. Produced by Miss Edna Craig, the play was presented by Miss Wvn Kent, Mrs. Jock Allen, Miss Eileen Thompson, Miss Peggy Walker. Miss Mary Pilkington, Miss Thorald Clerk and Miss Craig. Supper was served in an adjoining room, where early spring flowers and cherry blossom wero attractively arranged. Among those present were: —Mrs. J. W.
