"STAY-AT-HOME BIRDS"
Sir, —In your issue of August 25 under the above heading, you quote Mr. R. A. Falla oil the godwit, and state in regard to the presence of these birds at this time of the year that "it would seem probable that some of the birds are developing 'stay-at-home' habits," etc. Having been a resident in Auckland for 83 years I would like to point out that as long as I can remember there wero always godwit at what is now known as Bayjsw'atcr at all times of the year, arid I did not know for some years that these birds are migratory but noticed that they were in very good condition in the autumn, and in the winter in poor condition. Apparently,- some of the birds always remained and it. is not a new habit as regard the godwit. Takapuna. Allan O'Neill.
